Little India Field Trip

On Friday, Oct. 9, our class went on a field trip to Little India. Our visit was during the preparations for the Deepavali Festival. Our kids had the opportunity to visit places and experience bits of one of Singaporean's cultures. They were then able to compare and contrast their families with families of other cultures and their celebrations.

First, we visited the Bazzar on Campbell Lane/Serangood Road. We looked for flower garland strands, sari stores, jewelry stores, peacock symbols, lotus flower symbols, oil lamps, and things that make sounds. While walking around, we listened to many different sounds and Indian music.

Next, we visited the Sri Veramakalimman Temple. We saw oil lamps, bells on the doors, lotus flowers on the ceiling and many other amazing things.

After that, we were very hungry and we had a snack at Komala Villas. We ate a meal of poori (fried bread), potatoes and dahl on a banana leaf.

At last we visited the Tekka Market (Wet Market). We saw meat stalls, fish stalls, curry stalls and we also tried to find the ingredients to make dahl.
After leaving Little India, we went to Fort Canning for a picnic lunch. A big thanks to all parents that chaperoned groups and joined us in Little India. We could not have done it without you!
